Requirements

Position Overview

We are seeking a Satellite Communications (Satcom) Systems Engineering Technician, to assist teams in the design and deployment of Ku, X and Ka Band earth station systems around the world. The systems engineering technician must be experienced in all phases of satellite communications earth station operations, design, testing and documentation.


Main Tasks and Responsibilities
  • Assist in the analysis of customer and company requirements for new and existing satellite earth stations, integrated gateways and other antennas and systems.

  • Participate in the technical design and implementation of gateway earth stations comprising RF and Satcom analysis and specification, IP networking design and specification, software application configuration and testing.

  • Perform analysis and offer resolution of complex RF issues encountered in company-provided systems.

  • Assist in the production of company technical and procedural requirements to internal groups, vendors, and partners.

  • Investigation of any systemic issues within company-provided systems, suggest potential solutions.

  • Assist in the engineering design and specification of antenna hub equipment infrastructure.

  • Provide advanced satcom troubleshooting support to the technical support team.

  • Facilitate in the definition of project scope, goals and deliverables.

  • In conjunction with Systems Engineers and Program Managers, assist in defining project tasks and resource requirements.

  • Work with vendors to define requirements and test new products and updates.

  • Develop documentation, specifications and acceptance test plans, test procedures & programs for utilization of company products and integrated RF packages.

  • Design, develop, and document comprehensive maintenance, operation, test procedures and test plans.

  • Provide training and support to operations and support teams.

  • Be capable of technical design, implementation, and analysis of RF and Satcom systems including system availability analysis, block and level, EIRP & G/T, and link budgets.

  • Participate as contributor in cross-functional technical alignments between vendors, internal engineering staff and customer technical representatives.

  • Coordination with internal organizations including mechanical, hardware and software, program management, operations, business development, etc.

  • Familiarity with install, setup, and operation of typical Monitor and Control systems as utilized and deployed in the satcom industry.

  • Familiarity with uplink power control systems, test loop translators, traveling wave tube amplifiers, block upconverters, downconverters, satcom redundancy switching from 1:1 through 1:N, antenna control systems, low noise amplifiers, equalizers and tilt compensation networks.

  • Familiar with test equipment operation such as spectrum analyzers, power meters, network analyzers, test capture software such as LabVIEW, etc.

  • Experience in satcom production system integration, production methods expertise, factory acceptance testing.

  • Knowledge of WGS satcom operations and requirements, ARSTRAT certification testing and report generation desired.

Qualifications
  • Minimum of 10 years of Satellite system operations, 5 years of Satcom design and working understanding of all components of a satellite network is a must.

  • Satellite Communications, IP Networking and a variety of software platforms expertise.

  • US Military Satcom experience highly desirable

  • Prior LabVIEW use, coding, and experience a plus

  • US Citizen or Permanent Residency required
